About Us
AfriYAN Ghana is a voluntary, youth-led coordination space for adolescent and youth-led organisations working on population and development issues.
Our mission is to create a common platform where adolescent and youth-led and -focused organizations collaborate on policy advocacy, awareness creation, capacity building, and forge partnerships — driving better outcomes for young people across the country.
Due to its unique volunteer-based and advocacy-focused design, AfriYAN Ghana has grown into one of the most active youth coordination spaces in Ghana.
Originally established as Kerapa in 2009, the network was relaunched and rebranded as AfriYAN Ghana in November 2017 by Edith Esinam Asamani and Brilliant Edudzi Dziko, with support from UNFPA Ghana.
We are the national chapter of the African Youth and Adolescents' Network on Population and Development (AfriYAN), a continent-wide regional network.

Towards a Ghana where all adolescents and youth are empowered and given equal opportunities to fulfil their potential and influence development at all levels.
MISSION
To create a common platform for all youth-led and youth-focused organizations in Ghana to work collaboratively towards advancing priority population and development issues through policy advocacy, awareness creation, capacity building and partnership.

Accountability and Results
Transparency, accountability and results-driven
Equality & Fairness
Equal respect and opportunities for all. Fair gender, geographical, disability and age (adolescents and youth) representation in all affairs.
Partnership
Meaningful engagement of and collaboration with young people and all relevant stakeholders in the affairs of the Network.
Pillar 1 - Leadership, governance, policy, finance & development
We build the leadership capacity of young people to engage meaningfully in governance and policy processes at local, national, and international levels. Through advocacy and civic education, we work to ensure youth voices are present — and heard — wherever decisions are made.
Pillar 4 - Economic empowerment, livelihood & employment
We advocate for policies that expand economic opportunities for Ghanaians, from skills training and entrepreneurship support to fair employment and financial inclusion. We believe Ghana’s demographic dividend can be realised when young people have pathways to economic participation.
Six Thematic Pillars
Pillar 2 - Adolescent and youth health and development
We advocate for accessible, youth-friendly health services and champion adolescent sexual and reproductive health rights (ASRHR). Our work addresses gender-based violence, HIV, and the barriers that prevent young people from accessing the healthcare they need and deserve.
Pillar 5 - Environmental sustainability and climate action
Young people are on the frontlines of the climate crisis, yet are often excluded from the conversations shaping the response.
We amplify youth voices in climate policy, support environmental advocacy, and promote sustainable development practices that protect both people and the planet.
Pillar 3 - Youth, peace & security
We promote the meaningful participation of young people in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and security discussions in line with the UN Security Council's Youth, Peace and Security Agenda (UNSCR 2250). We believe young people are essential partners — not passive bystanders — in building peaceful communities.
Pillar 6 - Education, sports, culture & media
We recognise education, culture, and media as powerful tools for youth development and social change.
We support initiatives that expand access to quality education, celebrate youth-led cultural expression, and harness media and sport to spread awareness, build skills, and foster community.
Network Structure
The General Assembly comprises all member organisations in good standing with the Network. AfriYAN Ghana currently has over 80 youth-led member organisations.

Intern or Volunteer With Us
Are you a young person passionate about health, policy, gender equality, climate, or youth development? Join AfriYAN Ghana as a volunteer or intern and gain hands-on experience in advocacy, communications, monitoring and evaluation, or programme work.
