Digital Advocacy on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), as part of its response to the COVID19 pandemic, started digital advocacy as a means to maintain focus on SRHR needs of Ghanaians by policy makers and public service agencies.


Virtual Engagement Series

The main channels for disseminating information and advocacy messages has been Twitter chats, Twitter Storms and Virtual Policy Dialogues. So far the following have been organised:


Twitter Chat to commemorate World Health Day

Organised on 7th April 2020, the twitter chat focused on supporting nurses and midwives as front-line workers in the COVID-19 response, providing essential health services.


Twitter Chat on the Impact of COVID-19 on SRHR

Organised on 9th April 2020 in collaboration with partner organizations- African Youth and Adolescents' Network on Population and Development (AfriYAN Ghana), Youth Action Movement, Marie Stopes International Ghana, Curious Minds, Youth Advocate Ghana and Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights. The chat focused on the 'Impact of COVID-19 on SRHR' and what duty bearers must continue to do to manage the crises.


Twitter Chat to Commemorate World Menstrual Hygiene Day

Organised on 28th May 2020 to commemorate World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the twitter chat drew public attention to issues of menstruation and its attendant challenges.


Other Mediums for Advocacy

Additionally, e-flyers with messages targeting government and other stakeholders were issued every other day to increase demand for SRHR services as part of the essential services during pandemics such as COVID-19. Other channels used were radio and television interviews and press releases.
